The Details
The 1998 WSSCA Specialty show will be held
at the Interstate Center, (intersection of Interstate 55 and Interstate 74) in Bloomington, Illinois on Sunday May 24, 1998 in conjunction with the Illinois Valley Kennel Club. Our judge,  Mrs. Christine McDonald of  Northey Welsh Springers, hales from the UK. I expect many of the dogs at this Specialty have a Northey dog in their pedigrees. The breed has been influenced by several Northey stud dogs since the early 80's. Sue  and Gary Riese (Statesman's)  imported Northey Watneys Red, and the Rieses', Tonia Farnell (Brafci) , and Vickie Harshman (Lynlee) all owned imported pups who were grandkids of Northey Woodpecker, Watney's brother.

Field Work
Cindy Ford is coordinating the flushing spaniel WD/WDX Test to be held Monday, May 25 in the AFTERNOON. The fields are NEAR Bloomington and a map will be available at the Specialty. Pigeons will be used, and entry preference is given to Welshies. For more information, email Cindy directly.

The Hosts
The Heartland WSS Club is again hosting the Specialty, and if past experience is any guide, this is going to be a great Memorial Holiday weekend. The Heartland folks really go all out to put the Special in a Specialty. Colleen M. O'Keefe (Limberlost) is the show chairperson, and she's got a committed group of club members working to out-do their previous hospitality in 1991 and 1995.

Banquet Reservations
Carol Krohn is coordinating all Meal Reservations. There will be a PIZZA PARTY on Friday nite, May 22, for $6 per person. There will be a BBQ on Saturday nite, May 23, for 10 per person. There will be an AWARDS BANQUET on Sunday nite (following our Specialty), May 24 for $20 per person. Reservations were DUE on May 5, so if you haven't sent yours in yet, DO IT NOW! Carol is at 800 N. Madison St. Lancaster, WI 53813, and can be reached by phone at 1-608-723-4303

Hotels
A block of rooms is being held at the Best Western Inn, (
309-454-4070) located off Rt. 51 and Interstate 55 north of Bloomington. You must call the motel directly to obtain a room at the WSSCA group price--make sure you mention you want the WSSCA rate.  I'll post some links to other hotel information as we get closer to the Specialty. Make your reservations EARLY. This is a big dog show weekend, and hotels will be booked far in advance.

For More Information
Refer all your Specialty related questions directly to the Show Chairperson, Colleen O'Keefe. Contact Karen Lyle for information on becoming a member of the WSSCA, or download a copy of the membership application at the WSSCA web site.

A Reminder
Hey all you WSSCA members who earned titles on your dogs this year...Don't forget to send a PICTURE of your dog to Sue Healy in Florida, so she can announce your name and your accomplishments at the annual banquet. If you need Sue's home address, e-mail her and request directions for obtaining your award. I'd rather not post her address on the web site without her permission. We had a very low number of awards last spring at the Specialty. It's really nice to recognize all the hard work you've put into earning those breed, obedience, field, and performance titles--so SEND THOSE PICTURES TO THE CLUB HISTORIAN!!! [Webmaster: No charge for the plug, Sue.]
